Sports Updates Feb. 28, 2024

Courtesy of Mrs. Stewart:

Prepare yourself for a looonnnggg email.  There are a lot of positive updates from the past few days:

As you may have heard on the announcements, we are sending quite a few wrestlers to districts (boys) and regionals (girls) this weekend.
Placing for the boys were:
Ladanian Hughes - 6th
Avinash Mongar - 6th
Dipesh Chuwan (District alternate)
Tao Tak Non (District alternate)
Vaskar Subba - 4th place - District Qualifier
Moris Corbitt - 3rd place - District Qualifier
Elijah Gervins - 3rd place - District Qualifier
Sanjil Magar  - 2nd place - District Qualifier

And as proud as I am of their performance, imagine how I felt when the tournament manager made it a point to come find our coaching staff in the bleachers during the tournament to tell us how impressed they were with our team's behavior and attitude throughout the entire day.  Everywhere we go, they are outstanding representatives of their team and their school.
Pictures of the podium attached.

The Lady Viking wrestlers participated in a district tournament on Sunday with the goal of making it to regionals.
Placing for the girls were:
Sanjita Subba - 4th place - Regional Qualifier
Kretina Rai - 2nd place - Regional Qualifier
Karuna Rai - District Champion - Regional Qualifier
Anne Ruble - District Champion - Regional Qualifier

I saw them live and I have still watched them about 20 times.  The energy was off the charts.

I have included a few pictures including one that shows Coach Emily and Karuna leaving the mat after her pin to win because it is sheer, unfettered joy.  After that long, emotional day, as I was checking the bleachers and packing up to leave, I didn't see the team at all.  Where were our girls?  Celebrating their wins and their team standing (7th out of 26 teams)??  Nope.  They were racking chairs, carrying floor mats to the closets and cleaning the garbage off of the score tables to help the host school close down the gym so they could leave also.  As people tell me how great they are it doesn't seem polite to say, "I know."  But, I do indeed know.

Finally, some of the LRE students earned an incentive and attended an event with Youth United at Big Shots tonight.  The students had 2 hours to play as much as they wanted and a taco bar that apparently was both "slap" and "fire."  Again, Viking students were making us proud as they made a point to greet and thank those made the evening possible and were engaged in the spirit of the event from beginning to end.  They had the opportunity to connect with some community members and business people and left everyone with the impression that Viking students are just a cut above the rest.
