Softball Team Travels to Garfield Heights
On Friday, April 19, our softball team traveled to Garfield Heights to come together with their team for something bigger than a game. Our ladies wore pink in solidarity with the Bulldogs to honor and remember Skylar O'Neal who passed away last year from cancer at the age of 5. Her family was in attendance and was recognized in a pre-game ceremony and her brother threw out the first pitch. Both teams came together before and after the game in support of one another, and in a show of class, the Bulldogs presented Coach Fred with a bouquet in remembrance of the 6 year old daughter he lost to cancer 24 years ago. Lots of hugs and tears and a reminder of what is really important. Our girls could not have represented us any better than they did and Coach Fred, Coach Emily and Coach Erika have created a culture and set an example that continues to set our girls apart.
Tonight our boys volleyball team continued this trend of being true ambassadors to North by hosting and sharing a team meal with Northwest HS. Earlier this season, we traveled to Northwest and they were (of course) impressed by the level of sportsmanship and respect displayed by our team. At that time Coach Tiara invited them to stay after the game when they traveled to North and share a meal and some conversation. There wasn't a stranger in the room and no one left hungry. Parents and coaches joined and everyone gathered for a picture before they left. Oh, we won in 3 exciting sets, but again, that wasn't the most important thing we did tonight. Shout out to Coach Tiara, Coach Daja and Coach Detra for setting a standard and an example.
Proud to be a Viking!
