GEAR UP Has Huge Summer
First off, I want to give a huge shout out to Lorenzo Leatherwood. Lorenzo and his mom flew out to San Francisco with the GEAR UP team for the NCCEP Conference. He and his mom joined 150 other GEAR UP students and families from across the nation. Lorenzo participated in a 3.5-day leadership training during which he learned skills and strategies to strengthen his ability to navigate his future. The final day of the program culminated in a student-led presentation about current education issues that impact students, given to the over 2,000 conference attendees. Just like Lorenzo, his mom too participated in the parent portion of the conference.
Secondly, we sent 9 students to the Ohio Youth Leadership Summit with Amoriel Navarro and Alaizha Fisher representing the North Cluster. Check below to see photos and what all our scholars got to do.
This summer, GEAR UP continued hosting scholars for our two week summer camp. We were able to take 50 scholars to THE Ohio State University on an overnight Columbus trip. On that trip alone, scholars were able to see 4 different colleges and spend some time at COSI.
