DECA Youth Philanthropy Group Makes Donation
Akron North DECA Youth Philanthropy Group shows “Be Kind 330” to Youth Success Summit
On April 8, 2025, the Akron North High School DECA program awarded a $1,500.00 grant to the Youth Success Summit. Students at North High School participated in a Magnified Giving Program, which started in Cincinnati, and were given funds to invest in the local nonprofit community. Funds were also donated from the North High School Based Enterprise.
Magnified Giving’s mission is to educate, inspire and engage students in philanthropy, and to touch the hearts and minds of teens, lighten the concerns of others and magnify the impact of philanthropy. Through a six-step curriculum, students are educated on the true meaning of philanthropy and the critical needs of their community as well as the nonprofits serving those needs. Magnified Giving empowers students to make an educated decision regarding the agency most deserving of this grant.
The Youth Success Summit is a network of partners dedicated to providing high quality after-school and summer programs that are focused on children's growth, development and Success in the Akron area community.
Rachel Tecca, Executive Director of the Youth Success Summit stated, "We sincerely thank Akron North DECA and their instructor Mr. Mathews, for their generous donation to the Youth Success Summit. The student leaders have shown incredible dedication to making a difference in their community. Their support will directly benefit after-school and summer programs for youth in North Akron and we are truly grateful for their generous gift."

Eric Mathews, Akron North High School Marketing and Entrepreneurship Instructor & DECA Advisor stated, “The purpose of the Project-Based Learning opportunity was to provide our scholars with meaningful exposure to philanthropy. The Youth Success Summit has played a vital role in offering after-school activities that support our scholars’ professional development here in Akron. This kind of extracurricular programming—like what Youth Success Summit provides—helped shape me into the man I am today, growing up as a youth in Detroit, Michigan.”
