DECA Youth Philanthropy Gives to JOG Program

Akron North DECA Youth Philanthropy gives to Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates

On March 26, 2026, the Akron North High School DECA program awarded a $1,500.00 grant to Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG). Students at North High School participated in a Magnified Giving Program, which started in Cincinnati, and were given funds to invest in the local nonprofit community.  Funds were also donated from the North High School Based Enterprise.

Magnified Giving’s mission is to educate, inspire and engage students in philanthropy, and to touch the hearts and minds of teens, lighten the concerns of others and magnify the impact of philanthropy. Through a six-step curriculum, students are educated on the true meaning of philanthropy and the critical needs of their community as well as the nonprofits serving those needs. Magnified Giving empowers students to make an educated decision regarding the agency most deserving of this grant.

JOG’s mission statement is to empower at risk youth to overcome barriers, complete their education, and successfully transition into employment or post secondary training by
removing barriers and fostering leadership, career development and employability skills. JOG is an affiliate of the nationwide Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) organization.

Pamela Sayers, Director of Programming for JOG, shared, "JOG is in the business of providing educational and workforce development services for young adults because we believe in them and in the power of opportunity. Seeing the North High DECA Chapter give back is a true reflection of that support in action. We are incredibly grateful."

Rochelle Mitchell, JOG  Summit County Manager stated,  “Saba Nar did an excellent job today.  Her presentation was impactful and is a great reflection of the work being done.  It was truly a nice surprise.  We appreciated hearing one of our participants share about the JOG program, our mission, and the impact we’re making.”

Being a part of JOG has meant a lot to me. It has helped me build confidence and feel more prepared for my future. JOG has also taught me important life and career skills that I can use after graduation. I'm grateful for the support and guidance the program has given me,” stated Saba Nar, Secretary of the North High DECA Chapter.

Eric Mathews, Akron North High School  Entrepreneurship and Marketing Instructor & DECA Advisor stated, “The purpose of the Project-Based Learning opportunity was to provide our scholars with meaningful exposure to philanthropy.  JOG has been a powerful force in preparing our students for Employment, which is one of our vital 3 E’s as a district focus for our scholars."
