Akron, Ohio, April 10, 2019 – The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council (MYLC), a youth, civic leadership initiative designed to educate students about their government, community organizations and service-led projects is seeking new members. Students who will be enrolled as 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th graders in Fall 2019 and who live in the city of Akron are invited by Mayor Dan Horrigan to complete an online application at

“I am seeking motivated young people to represent their peers in conversations with me and my staff on important issues like violence, education, neighborhood development, and ways to attract and retain young people in our city,” Mayor Horrigan said. “Members will learn more about how City government works, how to qualify for a MYLC high school internship, and develop leadership skills that will set them up for success in college, career and life.”

Once selected, members will be invited to attend new members orientation training, participate in leadership training and activities that will prepare them to advocate on youth issues, become active problem solvers, and champions for change with a voice in decisions of city government.
