Akron Teens Learn to Lead!
Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council to host leadership workshop for area teens on June 26th
Akron, Ohio, May 21, 2019 – The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council (MYLC), in partnership with The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and The University of Akron, will host a “Learn to Lead” Teen Leadership Workshop on Wednesday, June 26th. The daylong workshop is for area students entering 9th through 12th grade in the fall, and will prepare teens for a dynamic 2019-2020 school year.
“The “Learn to Lead” Teen Leadership Workshop will help area teens to build confidence and improve speaking skills while learning to advocate for causes that can change the Akron Community,” stated Diversity/Training Manager Myra Snipes.
The workshop will be held at The University of Akron’s Jean Hower Taber Student Union from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There is NO COST to the first 100 participants registered by June 7th. A $35.00 per person fee will be charged after this date.
The Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council is also accepting applications for new members for the 2019-2020 school year. “I am seeking motivated young people to represent their peers in conversations with me and my staff on important issues like violence, education, neighborhood development, and ways to attract and retain young people in our city,” Mayor Horrigan said. “Members will learn more about how City government works, how to qualify for a MYLC high school internship, and develop leadership skills that will set them up for success in college, career and life.”
