APS Has Free ACT Test Coming
In an 'optimal' environment

As a part of the 2018-19 educational school year, the state of Ohio mandates all 11th grade students take either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) on one of three specified dates.

In Akron Public Schools, we will administer the ACT Wednesday, February 20, 2019. This date offers an opportunity for our students to take a free ACT provided by the state.

Executive Director of Secondary Education Mark Black tells families, "Due to the importance of this test, we are going to greater lengths to ensure an optimal testing environment. Please note our primary goal is to see all juniors complete the ACT in a quiet, distraction-free environment."

As a result, Black says the rest of APS high school students who are not juniors (9th, 10th, 12th graders) will not report to school Wednesday, February 20, 2019. They will instead complete a virtual lesson within the Career Cruising program connected to enhancing their chances to be enrolled, employed or enlisted.

Only juniors and identified students will be permitted to attend school 2/20/19; these students will receive written letters, all-call phone messages and other reminders during the upcoming weeks.
